Planting Seeds and Watching Them Grow

Elul is almost here! Let's prepare together this year.
Elul is the month on our Jewish calendars that precedes the High Holidays. It is a time of introspection and personal reflection. We prepare for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur by asking ourselves;
Have I been the best ___(your name here)_____ I could be this year?
Have I treated others with kindness and respect, and shown my family and friends how much I appreciate them?
Have I treated myself with kindness and compassion?
If I missed the mark, how can I prepare for the upcoming year and make changes in my life?
Have I allowed Judaism, my community and God to guide me on a path of goodness and righteousness?
We each prepare for the High Holidays in unique and personal ways. But we also have a chance to help each other along this journey. I was inspired by another blogger and Rabbi to begin blogging for Temple Beth Shalom, and there is no better time to begin than now!
During Elul I would like to ask all of our Religious School families and students to reflect on one theme of the High Holidays and share your reflection with our community. Send us your reflection before or during the month of Elul (the month begins on August 7th!) and we will post your reflections on this blog.
Here are some words/themes that you can begin thinking about during Elul:
Community, Prepare, God, Act, Bless, Respect, Give, Hope, Be, Believe, Trust, Forgive, Awaken, Learn, Return.
Plant your seed with us, and we will all grow together!
